President David R. Schools

In April 2007, after forty-five years with Piggly Wiggly Carolina, Buzzy Newton retired as President and became Chairman of the Board. His years were marked with growth and innovation and before his retirement, Piggly Wiggly Carolina became 100% Employee-owned. Upon Buzzy Newton’s retirement, David R. Schools was named President of Piggly Wiggly Carolina Company, and Greenbax Enterprises. In 2007, Piggly Wiggly Carolina Company celebrated its 60th year. It is remarkable to note many employees have been here for over twenty-five, thirty, even forty plus years. Some changes take place in time, one thing did not. Piggly Wiggly Employee-Owners make the difference in supporting the continuing changes as each individual warehouseman, picker, truck driver, sanitation, accounting, advertising, marketing, buyer, category manager, mailroom, administrative, receptionist, district manager, specialist, cashier, stocker, bagger, pharmacist, market, deli, produce, grocery, store set, store design, or bookkeeper reaches up to meet his or her potential. All are leaders in their fields. The unique drive that stirred and inspired Joe Newton makes it possible for each Piggly Wiggly employee to make a living, provide for his or her family, and become an active member of the community.
